Mainframe Platforms

Overview

Mainframe computing services consist of the hosting and maintenance of customer applications on mainframe servers at the Groton, Connecticut (GDC) or Springfield, Massachusetts (SDC), secure data processing centers. These services are, in general, the processing and storage of data and may include use of data management and transaction processing software, as well as required technical and operational support. The mainframe data processing environment is a mature, stable, secure, and cost-effective way of processing large amounts of data with very high availability and reliability.

The four major offerings of the Mainframe are as follows:

Batch
This mainframe computing service consist of the hosting and maintenance of Batch customer applications on mainframe servers at the GDC or SDC data processing centers. The mainframe data processing environment is a mature, stable, secure, and cost-effective way of processing large amounts of data in batch with very high reliability.

Storage
This storage service is a reliable, flexible, responsive and scalable storage infrastructure that can be used by the mainframe platform. The service is engineered to meet industry-standard requirements for security, performance, and availability. Storage hardware and support services are combined into a standard storage provider platform offering, designed to meet specific customer service level requirements, and to leverage both support and technology resources. The mainframe utilizes direct-attached storage, which enhances accessibility of features and products utilized for processing.

This service provides for mainframe disk storage and virtual storage, resource planning, and general administration.

On-Line
Mainframe On-Line computing services consist of the hosting and maintenance of customer applications on mainframe servers at the GDC or SDC. These services are, in general, the processing and storage of data and include use of data management and transaction processing software, as well as required technical and operational support. The mainframe data processing environment is a mature, stable, secure, and cost-effective way of processing large amounts of data with very high availability and reliability.

*DB2
Access to DB2 relational databases, a product offered by IBM. This full-featured Structured Query Language (SQL), database management system (DBMS), is known for its industrial strength and reliability. DB2 provides an open database environment that runs on a wide variety of computing platforms. DB2 includes a range of application development and management tools.

Access to DB2 relational databases from batch, on-line, or TSO sessions.
